At the TWU Visual Arts booth, students in our new 3D Printing and Fabrication Class will be making digital scans of visitors. You can get yourself scanned, and then have the resulting file emailed to your account immediately. We will also be showing how to do simple editing of those files to get them ready for 3D printing. And we plan to have a 3D printer running so you can see the process up close.
Here in the TWU Visual Arts Department, we are excited about the new possibilities that are emerging that give us new ways to create forms that convey meaning, challenge people to think differently, and offer innovative design solutions. Students will be showing off examples of how they are making use of the processes they are learning about. The class they are taking covers 3D Printing, CNC milling, Digital Scanning, Lasercutting, and a variety of Computer Aided Design modelling approaches. What we show will depend on what they make, so we invite you to see what they come up with!
For now, here are some images of CAD-based work made by students in a 3D Design class at TWU this Spring (image above and below).
